Match Report

Semi Final of the Major Cup

Football never ceases to amaze as only two weeks ago these two teams provided a 1-1 draw which should have seen more goals. Expecting a tight game today we ended up with a 10 goal thriller for the ‘Villans Massive’ (Tonys put on a few pounds) on the sidelines to watch. With the manager receiving no presents on his birthday (cant believe it) he mustered up a motivating  rallying call to the lads (“please win this one, its my birthday“). Straight from the kick off Villans got into their stride and a long hoik forward from Gurney found the keeper wanting and the ball float into the net. Great start. On 10 mins Gurney was called upon again as Kurt was brought down in the box, and he slotted the penalty home (seen better tho). The masses on the side (good of the priest to turn up) were treated to some good football from Villans but chances were few and far between at this stage. Then, on the half hour Wilnecote broke through and were awarded a pen as Poodi brought the striker down. Put it away, 2-1 and a nervy time for Villans. To be fair, Wilnecote were playing some decent football at times, and created a few chances. Relief as the half time whistle 2-1 to the Villans. You can tell sometimes at half time the general mood, and there was a distinct feeling that Villans were out to prove a point. On 48 minutes a Parkey corner was punched out by the keeper, fell to H who hit it home off the defenders leg. Two minutes later Kurt hit a ‘shot?’ from outside the box that curled into the middle of the net deceiving the keeper. On the hour a cross from Jake found H who netted his second. On 68 mins, a Hulin long ball was met superbly by Jobbo on the volley and the game was as good as out of reach for Wilnecote. But again they gave a good account of themselves by scoring two good goals to bring it back to 6-3. With 8 minutes to go, the scoring frenzy finished as a Sporcic through ball found Tommy S at the back post who finished it off. Final whistle went and Villans can celebrate reaching the Major Cup final for the second year running, to be played against Deer Park at Bolehall Swifts ground, Tamworth on Saturday 19th May. Ryan B got the Man of the Match award for...well anyone who watches him week in week out will know why. Great performance by all though, and a great chance to bow out in style on the 19th.
