Match Report

The Four Oaks Lions had a tough start to the day in their new league group having a difficult encounter against Shire Oak Saints. The team was making its debut appearance at Cannock Cricket and Hockey Club and in the first half they had to kick up a steep slope which made it a big challenge for the boys as they were camped in their own half defending for their lives.

Samuel was very busy in goal as shots were peppered in with some ferocity though the Lions managed to break away to force the odd corner as they came to terms with the conditions. Patrick and Jakey were both getting stuck in at the two wing-back positions with Daniel chasing back and forth from the centre of defence to try and keep Shire Oak at bay while Jayan was a fairly lonely figure as the lone striker though he had a half-chance which he scuffed past the post.

With Shire Oak ahead at half-time, some fresh legs were brought on for the second period and things brightened up for the Lions with Luke coming close to scoring after a mis-kick by the Shire Oak 'keeper and Samuel going close with a long-range effort. Noah added more power after coming on at centre-back and he was racing up and down the pitch to both add support to Dom up front and also making some very brave tackles at the back.

Dom had a great second half and he proved a constant threat to the Shire Oak defenders and the team kept ther heads up and battled through to the final whistle showing plenty of spirit.
