Match Report

This week saw the Lions take to the field for the final time in 2013, ahead of a 3-week Winter break. It also saw them at another new Venue, with both games played at the home of Silverdale FC.

First up was Brewood FC. With the dubious pleasure of being the first game of the morning, kicking off at 9.30am, the boys could have been excused for taking time to settle, but from the off they looked sharp. Kicking off with Noah in goal, a defence of Will and Samuel, Patrick in Midfield and Jayan up front, the boys chased every ball and started the better of the two teams.

Will broke up any early Brewood attacks and looked to set Jayan and Patrick away at every opportunity. Samuel was like a tiger in the tackle and assisted Will in protecting Noah's goal. Anything that did come his way, Noah dealt with and he even managed to turn defence into attack with some big punts upfield.

With the boys playing so well, it was a shock for them to go behind to 2 swift Brewood counter attacks.

Despite being behind at half time, the boys were still in the game. Changes at the break saw Noah handing the gloves to Samuel and lining up in a new look defence with Daniel. Luke came on for Patrick, with Jakey replacing Jayan.

The second half was played in a similar vein to the first, with the Lions looking comfortable on the ball. With Noah and Daniel looking to assist Luke and Jakey in attack, to reduce the deficit,  we were caught out a couple of times, but when we were, some heroics from Samuel kept Brewood at bay. On more than one occasion he had to come rushing off his line to block a certain goal.

Luke and Jakey were linking well and were both unlucky not to have got more reward for some excellent play.

Despite some lovely attack play, there was to be no way back for the Lions. They did, however, leave the pitch with their heads held high and unfortunate not to have got something more from the game.
