Match Report

Falcons put in one of their best performances of the season on Tuesday evening as they beat local rivalsSuttonTown 3-0.

The team played with a good high tempo all evening, controlled the match from start to finish and in doing so created a number of chances throughout the game.

The first half saw Falcons kicking into a slight breeze but as in previous games against Sutton the midfield battle was won almost straight from kick off and this allowed the skill & pace of the attacking players to flourish as numerous chances were created. A number of these attacks resulted in corners being won and with Louis again demonstrating excellent deadball technique it was no surprise when Matt E flicked on an in swinging cross for Jon to poke home. Sutton tried hard to get back into the game and they also had a series of corners later in the half which caused some nervous moments in the Falcons area. That said the defensive display was as good as we have seen all season and the added bonus of being able to welcome Joe J back along with another super display from Lukash meant that Charlie was rarely troubled in this first period.

The second half saw the introduction of the lads that had been waiting eagerly on the touchline for 30 minutes and they only proved to show what a top class squad we now have available for selection. The defence in the second period again performed admirably and apart from a single chance afforded to the Sutton forward, from a long ball that caught out the back four, they went onto to secure the first meaningful clean sheet of the season.

In midfield and forward areas Falcons continued to play some great football and following an unfortunate injury to the excellent Sutton keeper they were able to turn this quality approach play into further goals with Jon grabbing his second following a great pass from Tom and Dylan also getting onto the score sheet.

Overall a great nights work and particularly pleasing for myself and Stuart that all 15 players contributed so well to a fine team victory.

MOM was a difficult choice as defensively the team was excellent and the two Matt’s in midfield, along with Lukash in the 2nd half, ran their socks off to ensure we kept control of the game. The attacking players interchanged and swapped positions throughout and were always dangerous and full of running. In the end though the award goes to Matt S for putting in his best performance of the season where he made important tackles, beat players with great wing play and delivered some real quality into the forwards.

Just 3 more league matches now and a Cup Final to come so lets keep up the performance levels!
